Formula Fusion - R8 Games

When you think of futuristic anti-gravity racing games the PS1 hit Wipeout instantly springs to mind. But now R8 games are here to teach us theres a new level the genre can goto. Having listened closely to what the fans want, Formula Fusion is a game that promises to deliver the greatest AG experience yet.

We got chance to test out Formula Fusion at this years EGX Rezzed and have a chat with R8 games owner Andrew Walker. Having worked on Wipeout 3, Andrew told us that for him the series had lost a lot of its spark in later games. It was something he felt was due to demands & pressure from corporate companies, which as many of us know is a common issue for many gaming franchises. R8 games however stepped up to show fans of the genre that the AG racing experience can go that extra step further, while containing the same great gameplay the original Wipeout game offered us.

Introducing new mechanics into the genre, Formula Fusion is not just your typical AG racer. It takes things to a whole new level of customization by allowing you to shape your vehicle into a unique piece of machinery suited just for you. Analytic data after each race will allow you to see which parts of your creation are working well, and which could be upgraded or changed in order to shave off time round the courses.
Weapons do not come in your usual power-up form, but are pre selected before each race which creates a more tactical approach to racing as opposed to the luck of picking up a random box. And amongst many other things, the game plays like a real world event and allows users to create their own teams, hire their own racers be it friends or random online players, and together compete in the real world leader boards. Its the best thing you can get to a racing team without spending a million dollars!

Our resident cameraman and reporter James Gribbin who is a fan of the Wipeout series (and seen first playing in the video below) said "If i didnt already know it wasnt Wipeout, id of thought it was Wipeout".

The team at R8 Games have a high level of competence, and speaking to Andrew i could tell he was confident about how the game will be received by the public. Having listened to fans and backers from the Kickstarter campaign closely, combined with the knowledge & expertise the R8 team possess, its a game sure to gain a lot more attention than it has already.

Formula Fusion will be released on Steam during the second quarter of 2017.  
Formula Fusion Early Access Now available!

Formula Fusion will feature 8 tracks, 5 customisable craft types and 10 teams to choose from. Reverse mode is also an option, bringing the total to 30 playable tracks from launch. Plans to add more content are also in the pipeline after the games release. This will include not only vehicles and soundtracks, but new game modes and courses to race on.
