Piko interactive get a new lineup

New Releases from Piko Interactive

Nes, Snes, Megadrive.. Even Atari Jaguar! We take a look at some of the new releases by Piko Interactive! All designed for use on original retro hardware.

Over the past few months Piko Interactive have managed to grow at a seemingly rapid rate. Securing several new licenses to release across multi platforms they are definitely securing their place in the market as the leading retro content providers. With over 30 titles already spanning over several retro consoles they are a company you should definitely keep an eye on.
Recently they have started taking orders on 7 new titles for Nes, Snes, Megadrive and the Atari Jaguar. We talk a bit more about each title below...

Smart Mouse Genesis/Megadrive $29.99
Taking control of a character named Max the Mouse, you embark on a mission to clean up the alleys and sewers by crushing enemies using sliding blocks. The game has a kind of Bomberman feel to it but plays more like a Pengo clone and is a pretty simple yet addictive game.
The title screen and animations are quite nice looking but in-game level designs seem a bit outdated for the 16-bit era. It was originally only released in Taiwan as Huan Le Tao Qi Shu (most likely due to its ingame level designs?). But Smart Mouse, like many other games that didn't make it overseas in the 90s were not developed to look pretty, but moreso based around the gameplay and playability of the product. So, if your not interested in the visuals of a game, then this is one worth checking out.

Custodian Atari Jaguar $74.99
Originally released in 1989 on the Amiga and Atari ST, Custodian now makes its way onto the Atari Jaguar. Its a 2d multi-directional shooter in which you aim to destroy oncoming parasites set out to drain your energy bases. Set out over 4 areas you have the ability to gather a multitude of weapons to help along the way. Its a game I've never seen before, so being a huge Jaguar fan I'm interested to see what this game plays like.
Its the first Jaguar release from Piko and if sales go well then you can expect to see more releases from them on the system. Theres currently a growing interest in Jag development, so maybe in the future they will try to pick up licenses for homebrew games that are retail grade? The Jaguar has always had negative press, so finding a gem that shows off the capabilities of the console could really make people realise the potential the system has!

Generals of the Yang Family Genesis/Megadrive $34.99
Originally a Chinese exclusive only title, Generals of the Yang Family is a 2d beat em up with a storyline based around several Chinese folk stories. Its been fully licensed by Piko and is not just an English localisation as many other additions have been made to the games design. An overall polish has taken place enhancing how the game plays, many bugs have been fixed that were issues in the original release, and the hit detection counter has also been altered making this localised version a more enjoyable experience.

Sumo Slam Genesis/Megadrive $24.99
Created by Segaman, Sumo Slam is a multiplayer homebrew game that features upto 12 players and many different modes of play. Taking control of a sumo wrestler you can choose to eat sushi or just take on foes in an attempt to bash them out the ring! It plays with an ariel view and the level design is quite simplistic having you confined to the sumo ring surrounded by water. The characters seem to have no animations which was quite a let down but looking at multiplayer footage it seems a competitive game to play.
Its currently taking orders for shipping in Dec/Jan and numbers are limited. But even though there will be only 1 print run, i think this would be a game for homebrew enthusiasts only.

Snakky NES $24.99
Another homebrew release from Piko presents the NES game Snakky, which is a clone of the unforgettable Snake game which plagued mobile fones in the early millennium. Released as part of the Piko 'Black Box' Compilation, Snakky is one of many other homebrew titles to appear on the system. Sadly for us this didn't offer anything new and so once again this one is maybe a game for homebrew enthusiasts only?

Iron Commando SNES $34.99
Iron Commando is a fast paced side scrolling brawler that looks absolutely great fun! Choosing to play as a Martial arts master or a Soldier, you set off across 10 very well designed levels taking down enemies of the G.H.O.S.T. organisation who are trying to capture a radioactive meteorite!
Looking very much like a Final Fight or Rival Turf game, your objective is to beat the crap out of everything you see and claim victory! In Iron Commando you don't just punch and kick your enemies, but various weapons can be picked up along the way! And theres also the chance to ride on Motorbikes, Jeeps...even a Mine cart!
If you like side scrollers then i see no reason why you wouldn't find this title interesting. Developed by Arcade Zone and released in Japan 1995 i cant understand why this game didn't make it overseas sooner? I definitely recommend checking it out.

Legend 2016 Reprint SNES $34.99
Those of you familiar with Super Nintendo side scrolling Beat-em-ups may already know this title? Originally released in 1994, Legend is a game in similar style to the likes of Streets of Rage and Golden Axe with its medieval setting. Later on the game was redesigned for the Playstation 1 under the same name but this original Snes version is the one some will remember.
Playing as a knight, you set off on a mission to stop a corrupt Kings son from harnessing the powers of Beldor the Maleficent's soul. An evil that had reigned over the kingdom for 1000 years before being imprisoned by the people of Sellech.
Developed by Arcade Zone this is a game that plays similar to Iron Commando. It doesn't seem to play as faced paced, but it definitely is an interesting game and one id recommend taking a look at if you've not seen it already! This new reprint from Piko will be available as a region free cartridge complete with box and manual.
