Wisdom Tree, better known for their 1990's christian based games Super Noahs Ark 3d and Spiritual Warfare, are back with a kickstarter project to release a Plug-n-Play device which will feature 6 of their games. Not only this, but a series of Multi-Carts, all on original 8 and 16 bit media will be released at the same time.
At the time of writing this story the Kickstarter project has already succeeded, and surpassed its £16500 goal to fund the project. 500 Wisdom Tree PNP devices will be in production and should be shipped around November 2016. So what is the PNP exactly? Well, its a USB powered NOAC (NES on a chip) thats pre loaded with 7 of the games from the Wisdom Tree collection. This all fits snugly inside a NES style control pad, which connects direct to your TV. The games included are Sunday Funday, Spiritual Warfare, Joshua - The Battle of Jericho, Exodus, Bible Adventures, King of Kings and finally Bible Buffet.
The device has been developed by Piko Interactive, who are also releasing the 6 game set as a NES and Megadrive multi-cart. Releases of Super Noahs Ark 3d are also coming to the SNES, which is one id definately reccomend keeping an eye out for. If you havent seen it before its a game that was built from the original Wolfenstein 3D engine. Yet in SNA3D you take on a different role, by going round feeding goats rather than blasting hell out of nazi warmongers. Bizzarre is definately something Wisdom Tree do best, and this is the whole reason why i had to purchase a PNP.
Each game from the Wisdon Tree series is one you can compare to many of the top selling games from the 8bit era. Spiritual Warfare youl see, is its own retake on the classic Zelda series, and is definately one of the top games in the set. So putting aside the religious parts of each game, they are very playable, and not just appealing to the christian population. This may take a positive effect for the future of Wisdom Tree, as Eli, the founder of Piko Interactive stated that even though Wisdom Tree will remain in the religious sector, games may not necessarily need to be so "preachy" in todays market. This could mean some interesting projects in the future.
As the Kickstarter project has now closed, early bird orders for the discounted PNP are no longer available. But you can still purchase the multi-carts from the Wisdom Tree website directly, and upon the release of the PNP to retailers youl be sure to grab yourself one at the RRP of $44.95. Theres also a great podcast you can listen to, which goes more indepth to how Piko Interactive aquired the rights to the Wisdom Tree label.
Keep your eyes peeled for the update around noember, which will feature a detailed look at the device, and of course gameplay of whats on offer.
