In this episode we take a look at 3 indie games that each have their own unique point of interest. A platformer with a dark side, a side scrolling puzzler with some great mechanics, and a point and click ..errr cleaning simulator? ...we check out if the Games Got Potential?..or not!
Grampy Katz in The Big Date
The first thing you notice in Grampy Katz is its wonderful art style which carries a charming 1950's feel. Its a point and click based game set on a single screen that requires you to perform a series of tasks in order to prepare yourself for a big date thats about to arrive. Tasks include cooking the dinner, watering the plant, collecting the mail and many other things. And whereas this may not sound very exciting, Grampy Katz moves at a fast pace and your constantly involved in the short, but addictive gameplay.
With the clock ticking down you have to make sure everything is perfect for when your very picky guest arrives, and she will be sure to tell you if shes not impressed!
Grampy Katz is a game that you'll play over and over, and over again. It was created in under 72 hours for the Ludum Dare 36th game jam, and i honestly think if the game could be expanded on, adding a few levels and a storyline, then its a game we could easily see on not only steam, but home consoles aswel.

The Maitre D
Working at a French Brasserie your job is to show guests to their seats by lifting them off their feet and maneuvering your body in what can only be described as a 'Snake like' motion. Developed by Powerhoof/SeaDads game jam team for the LudumDare 35 competition, The Maitre D is a side scrolling puzzler that will keep you entertained for quite some time. Being developed in under 72 hours its a game that can be finished quite quickly, but there is hours of replay value here.
The Maitre D has some great elements to it. The soundtrack goes well with the French voice over who comes in to tell you how well your doing, and adds a nice fun feel to the game. Level designs are well thought out and the game seems pretty solid for something designed in such a short time.
There doesn't seem to be any talk of developing the game further which is a shame as i could imagine this one appearing on the likes of the PSN store aswel as Steam.

The Dark Within
Awakening with a bloody wound and no history of how you got it, The Dark Within puts you in a pixilated 2d world in which you pursue to learn who you are, and why your there.
Using Dimension Switching Mechanics that allow you to switch between light and dark realms, you go through levels solving puzzles and discovering a dark mystery.
Its a fairly short game, but is very interesting indeed. The narrative keeps you engrossed and puzzles are fairly self explanatory and mainly require simple timing as you switch between light and dark. (its a little hard to explain in text so make sure to check out The Dark Within Gameplay on YouTube.)
The Dark Within has recently appeared on Steam looking for the Green Light, so we can only hope it will be further expanded on. I can see this being a popular release, so take a look over on Steam by clicking here and give it a thumbs up.
