Hunter Studio's jump out of nowhere to bring us one of the cutest, but toughest action RPG dungeon crawlers ever to exist. Brimming with action, randomized dungeons and plenty of added extras, this is a game that youl come back to time and time again.
Lost Castle is a game which you get into right away, the controls are self explanatory, and everything moves quite smoothly. You play as a character on a mission to seek the treasure of a fallen Earl who's castle has been taken over by demons. You move through each dungeon clearing the way of enemies in order to progress. Food, weapons and magical potions can be collected which have many different effects on either you or your surroundings. There are many amusing and imaginative enemies to tend with and a whole bunch of Boss battles to stumble upon along the way.
Starting off in a forest you quickly make your way into Harwood Castle in order to find and plunder the lost treasure. You work your way through the randomized zones collecting goods until you stumble upon a boss battle. If completed you continue onto the next level, if you fail, your soul is reused and you start over again!
Now its not as unfair as it sounds, as each time you die certain collectibles can be used to buy upgrades in order to 'create the best mortal'. Upgrades and extras can be added to make things a little easier, though each continue makes the game a little more harder. Its actually a great balance which adds to the gameplay, and along with the randomization the game never seems to get tiresome.
Lost Castle is a very cute looking game with a great soundtrack, but don't let its visuals fool you! Its quite hard, and as you use a lot of close range attacks it can be quite nerve wrecking at times of crisis. Though everything plays out well and its not really a game you'd get frustrated at. We had great fun playing the demo version (for around 6 hours) and so id definitely recommend taking a look at it on Steam. Its currently at £6.99 which i think is a bargain, I'm not sure if there will be a home console release but i do hope so. Expanding on classics such as Castle Crashers and Rogue Legacy, i can see Lost Castle being a success.
